radio advertisementsSimilar to last year and this spring, I had lots of radio time recently in trucks / tractors / combines while helping with my family’s fall corn and soybean harvest. *

Several companies were spending money on radio ads, but apparently weren’t will to spend money on domains that pass the radio test. Here are a few examples.

  • Kars4Kids.org. Where do you start with this domain — the “K”, the number 4, or the .org? They close their radio ad with “that’s cars with a ‘K’”.
    • Cars4Kids.com redirects to the correct website, CarsForKids.com does not.
  • 20offcoupon.com. They close their ad with their domain name, and “that’s with a number 2 and a zero”. I wish I remembered the rest of the advertisement, because I can’t for the life of me figure out what they’re doing with the website.
    • TwentyOffCoupon.com is not registered.
  • Dux.com. They close their advertisement with “Dux.com, that’s ‘D’, ‘U’, ‘X’.
    • Ducks.com is smartly owned by outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops, and redirects to their homepage.
  • Stuffies.com. In my mind, this domain passes the radio test, but apparently they’ve had problems in the past. They end the ad with “stuffies.com — that’s ‘stuff’ with ‘I’, ‘E’, ‘S’, .com”.
    • Stuffys.com is parked.

* OK, so harvest has actually been over for well over a month……I had this post drafted, but forgot to publish it.

I find it funny when bad domains are used in radio ads. They have to explain the spelling, or to use a number and not spell the number, or to use a hyphen, etc.

I’m in shock that 20offcoupon.com had the money to afford a radio ad but didn’t have the money to hire a pro build their website. That, or they just got ripped off. I went to their website and read half of the first sentence and left. Terrible layout to go along with a terrible domain.
